Administrative Structure


BIT, Mesra is a "Deemed University" under Sec. 3 of the U.G.C. Act 1956. The Board of Governors is responsible for the main functions and overall supervision of activities. It comprises representatives of the Ministry of Education, Government of India, the U.G.C., the State Government, The Chancellor, the AICTE, The Hindustan Charity Trust and the Institute Faculty. Shri C.K. Birla is the Chairman of the Board of Governors while the Governor of the state of Jharkhand officiates as the Institute's Chancellor.  There's a Technical Council that decides the academic policy of the Institute.

Candidates must have passed Class 12 / Intermediate or equivalent qualifying examination with 50% (45% for SC/ST) marks in Class 12 / Intermediate or equivalent qualifying examination with English as a subject. Appearing candidates may also apply, subject to production of marksheet with requisite percentage of marks in Class 12 at the time of Entrance Test and Interview.

Notes:

·         Only those candidates whose date of birth falls on or after 1st October 1994 in case of General / OBC category and 1st October 1989 in case of SC/ST are eligible for admission. Date of Birth as recorded in the Secondary Education Board Class X (High School) certificate only will be considered as authentic.

·         Candidates with foreign diplomas should see the EdCIL website for equivalence (www.edcil.co.in), and if required should obtain an equivalence certificate from the evaluation division of the AIU (website www.aiuweb.org).

·         In case any Board awards grades instead of marks, the calculation of equivalent marks would be based on the procedure prescribed by the Board.

1.       Candidates must hold EITHER a

a). B.E. / B.Tech / AMIE / MCA / equivalent degree in the appropriate disciplines / branches mentioned below for the respective courses, with a minimum 55% marks in average (50% for SC/ST) in graduation / MCA. OR
b). M.Sc. / M.A. degree or equivalent in the appropriate disciplines / branches mentioned below for the respective courses with 55% (50% for SC/ST), after graduating with a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent qualification in 10+2+3 system from a recognized University.
Candidates should preferably be GATE 2016 / GATE 2017 / GATE 2018 qualified. Non-GATE candidates may also apply. However, their applications will be considered only after applicants who have qualified in GATE have been considered, admitted.
2.       Candidates appearing for final examinations in 2018 can also apply and if selected can join the programme provisionally. At the time of the counselling they must bring a certificate in original from the Principal of Institute stating that:
a). by 30 June 2018, he/she will have appeared for examination in all subjects required for obtaining his/her qualifying degree.
b). he/she has obtained requisite marks or equivalent based on latest available grades / marks. Provisionally selected candidates will be required to sign an undertaking at the time of admission on Non-Judicial Stamp Paper of Rs. 20/- (as format given in Sec-10). Further, their admission will be confirmed only when they submit the mark sheet and a certificate of having passed the qualifying examination with requisite marks. They must submit proof of passing their final examinations with requisite marks by 31 October 2018. Non-fulfillment of this condition will automatically result in the cancellation of the provisional admission.
3.       Candidates with qualifications acquired through correspondence or distance-learning programmes are eligible only if (a) the programmes are recognized by the tripartite panel of AICTE-UGC-DEC, (b) they have passed the qualifying examination at the time of applying, with minimum requisite marks, calculated as per item (1) above. They must enclose photocopy of pass certificate, marksheets of qualifying examination and proof of the programme recognized by the AICTE-UGC-DEC in letter head of the Institute / College / University with their application form. 1.       Candidates must hold a B.Pharm. degree from a PCI and AICTE approved Institute. Candidates must have minimum 55% marks in average (50% for SC/ST) in graduation. Candidates should preferably be GPAT 2017 / GPAT 2018 qualified. Non-GPAT candidates may also apply. However, their applications will be considered only after applicants who have qualified in GPAT have been considered, admitted (for details, please see the selection procedure). 
2.       Candidates appearing for final examinations of their Bachelor’s programme / qualifying examination in 2018 can also apply and if selected can join the programme provisionally. They must enclose photocopies of pass certificate and marksheets of qualifying examination with their application. [Appearing candidate in distance learning programmes, whose results are yet to be declared, are not eligible to apply].

(1)     Candidates with foreign diplomas should see the EdCIL website for equivalence (http://www.edcil.co.in), and if required should obtain an equivalence certificate from the evaluation division of the AIU (website http://www.aiuweb.org).

(2)     In case, any Board / University awards grades instead of marks, the calculation of equivalent marks would be based on the procedure prescribed by the Board / University. In case, a University does not have any scheme for converting CGPA into equivalent marks, the equivalence would be established by dividing obtained CGPA with the maximum possible CGPA and multiplying the resultant with 100.

(3)     At any level of the studies [Class X, Class XII or Graduation], a candidate / applicant must have passed all the required subjects at that level from the same Board/ University.

 1.       Candidates must hold a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent qualification of any of the Universities incorporated by an act of the central or state legislatures in India or other educational institutions established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under section 3 of UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India / AIU. This degree must entail a minimum of three years of education after completing higher secondary schooling [Class 12 or equivalent] (10+2+3 system).

2.       Candidates of B.Sc. / B.A. Honours must have minimum 55% marks in average (50% for SC/ST) in their Honours subject. Candidates of other graduate courses must have minimum 55% marks in average (50% for SC/ST) in graduation.
3.       Candidates appearing for final examinations of their Bachelor’s programme in 2018 can also apply and if selected can join the programme provisionally. At the time of the counselling they must bring a certificate in original from the Principal of Institute stating that:
a). by 30 June 2018, she/he will have appeared for examination in all subjects required for obtaining his/her qualifying degree.
b). He/she has obtained requisite marks or equivalent based on latest available grades / marks.
Provisionally selected candidates will be required to sign an undertaking at the time of admission on Non-Judicial Stamp Paper of Rs. 20/- (as format given in Sec-10). Further, their admission will be confirmed only when they submit the mark sheet and a certificate of having passed the Bachelor's degree / equivalent qualification with at least 55% marks (50% in case of SC/ ST). They must submit proof of passing their final examinations with requisite marks by 31 October 2018. Non-fulfillment of this condition will automatically result in the cancellation of the provisional admission.

Selection Procedure

Reservation & distribution of seats:

·          The Institute observes statutory reservation in respect of SC, ST and physically handicapped persons at all its centres in India.

·          50 % seats are reserved for candidates from the state of Rajasthan, 10 seats are reserved for girl candidates and 20 seats for candidates from other states in each discipline.

 

The eligibility criteria for admission to the B.E. programmes at BIT Jaipur Centre is  as given below:

·          The maximum age limit for admission is 21 years for general candidates relaxed by 5 years for SC/ST candidates i.e. age limit is 26 years for SC/ST candidates

·          Pass in all subjects of Class 12 / I. Sc. or equivalent examination, with at least 70 % marks in aggregate counting all required subjects including Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry (60 % for SC/ST).

·          Pass in Class 10 with minimum aggregate 65% (60% for SC/ST) counting all required subjects.

·          Valid Rank in AIEEE - 2016

·          Selected candidates will be required to produce proof of meeting all eligibility conditions at the time of admission, failing which the provisional selection will be cancelled.

F       Candidates must hold a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent qualification of any of the Universities incorporated by an act of the central or state legislatures in India or other educational institutions established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under section 3 of UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India/AIU. This degree must entail a minimum of three years of education (10+2+3 system) after completing higher secondary schooling (Class 12 or equivalent).

F       Candidates of B.Sc. / B.A. Honours must have minimum 55% marks in average (45% for SC/ST) in their Honours subject. Candidates of other graduate courses must have minimum 55% marks in average (45% for SC/ST) in graduation, marks to be computed as average of marks obtained in ALL subjects in which candidate has appeared (excluding optional subjects).

F       Candidates with qualifications acquired through correspondence or distance-learning programmes are eligible only if they acquired such qualifications as working professionals / while in employment.

F       Candidates appearing for final examinations of their Bachelor’s programme in 2013 can also apply, and if selected can join the programme provisionally. At the time of the counselling they must bring:

1.      A certificate in original from the Principal of their Institute certifying that will have appeared for examination in all subjects required for obtaining their Bachelor’s degree.

2.      A certificate in original from the Principal of their Institute certifying that they have obtained 55% marks or equivalent (45% in case of SC/ST candidates) based on latest available grades / marks.

 

Their admission will be confirmed only when they submit the mark sheet and a certificate of having passed the Bachelor's degree / equivalent qualification with at least 55% marks (45% in case of SC/ ST). Candidates should obtain our Information Brochure 2009 and Postgraduate Application Material 2009 giving details of the eligibility criteria, number of seats, fee structure, reservations, and containing the prescribed application form.  The same may be obtained in person from the Accounts Office at Mesra or from any of our Extension Centres during working hours on all working days, from 9 April 2009 up to

20 May 2009, on payment by crossed Demand Draft for Rs. 1,000/- in favour of Birla Institute of Technology, payable at Ranchi. See below for addresses and contact details. To obtain the Information Brochure 2009 and Postgraduate Application Material 2009 by post, send a crossed demand draft for Rs. 1,050/- in favour of Birla Institute of Technology, payable at Ranchi, along with a covering letter mentioning the course applied for, and two slips of paper (of size 10 x 10 cm) with your name and address clearly written in block capitals, and telephone number, to Dean Admissions at Mesra or Director of any of our Extension Centres. Write PG - 2009 on the envelope. Postal requests must be received by 13 May 2009.

 

To apply for any of the programmes, eligible candidates must send the completed application with enclosures to office of the Dean Admissions, Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi – 835215, positively by 23 May 2009.

You may use one application form to apply for ONLY one programme – ME or MPharm or MTech or MUP or MSc and ONLY one discipline within that programme – for example only ME in Mechanical or only MTech in Computer Science or only MSc in Bioinformatics. However, one application form can be used to apply for various specializations within some ME programmes and within the M. Pharm programme, and in the case of MSc programmes in Bioinformatics and Geoinformatics, you may also use one application form to apply for different Places for Study, in order of preference. Please use separate application form(s) to apply for two (or more) programme(s). Applications made on photocopies of forms are not acceptable.  Since admission to MSc programmes will be through a single test, please indicate in application form if applying for more than one MSc programme, or attach letter stating the details of applications for other MSc programmes (form numbers and names of programmes)

Eligibility and Selection Procedure for MTech (Scientific Computing) in Birla Institute of Technology, BIT, Mesra

F       Candidates must hold EITHER a B.E. / BTech / AMIE / MCA / equivalent degree in the appropriate disciplines / branches mentioned below for the respective courses, with a first class or minimum 60% marks in average (45% for SC/ST) in graduation / MCA. In case the examining Board does not award a class, the percentage marks in graduation / MCA will be computed as average of marks obtained in all subjects in which candidate has appeared (excluding optional subjects), OR an

F       MSc / MA degree in the appropriate disciplines / branches mentioned below for the respective courses with 55% (45% for SC/ST), after graduating with a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent qualification in 10+2+3 system from a recognized University  

F       Candidates should preferably be GATE qualified. Non-GATE candidates may also apply – see Selection Procedures below

Their admission will be confirmed only when they submit the mark sheet and a certificate of having passed the qualifying examination with requisite marks. They must submit proof of passing their final examinations with requisite marks by 31 October 2009. Non-fulfillment of this condition will automatically result in the cancellation of the provisional admission.
