AUD is a public University with a campus-based, unitary structure with research, postgraduate and undergraduate programmes in the social sciences and the humanities.


The Bharat Ratna Dr B.R. Ambedkar Vishwavidyalaya (Ambedkar University, Delhi or AUD) was established by the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi through an Act of Legislature in 2007 and was notified in July 2008. Mandated to focus on research and teaching in the social sciences and humanities and guided by Dr Ambedkar's vision of bridging equality and social justice with excellence, AUD considers it to be its mission to create sustainable and effective linkages between access to and success in higher education. Selection Procedure for Ambedkar University:

Candidates will be admitted to the program on the basis of combined scores obtained in the written test, written essay and interview conducted by the university.

The admission test will be of 2 hour duration which will consist of multiple choice questions. It is an aptitude test comprising two sections intended to assess the candidate’s ability in the area of Quantitative Skills and Analytical Reasoning; and English Language Comprehension and Verbal Ability.

The Statement of Purpose (SOP) submitted by the candidates while applying to MASE program will also be assessed at the time of interview.

2.      Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognised university with a minimum of 55% marks (or an equivalent grade) are eligible for admission

3.      The final selection for admission will be made after written tests and interview.

4.      Admission will be made according to the procedures and guidelines of the University.

5.      A Bulletin of Information and application forms will be available according to the enclosed schedule on all working days at the University office from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm for Rs 50. These can also be purchased at select branches of Canara Bank in Delhi.

6.      Application forms can also be downloaded from the website of the University. There is no provision for online submission. Completed application forms will have to be submitted along with a bank draft of Rs 200 for the first MA programme. An extra charge of Rs 100 will have to be paid to apply for each additional MA programme. For SC/ST candidates the application forms will have to be submitted along with a bank draft of Rs 100 for the first MA programme. An extra charge of Rs 50 will have to be paid to apply for each additional MA programme. The bank draft should be made in favour of ‘Ambedkar University, Delhi’ and issued only from a nationalised bank. Please write your name, the name of the programme applied for and contact telephone number on the back of the bank draft.

7.      The completed application can be submitted by hand at the University Office or sent by post or submitted at select branches of Canara Bank in Delhi. Click here for a list of branches.

8.      The last date for submission of applications is indicated in the Admission Schedule enclosed. Those applying by post must ensure that their application along with enclosures reaches well in time. The University shall not be responsible for any delay on the part of the postal department. Applications will not be entertained after the due date.

9.      The schedule for the Written Test and Interview is available here.

10.  Only a limited number of candidates selected on the basis of their performance in the Written Test will be called for Interview. Candidates must check the website and / or the notice boards of the University for the date, time, venue and the list of candidates called for the Written Test. These will be available from the date indicated in the Admission Schedule. The exact schedule for interviews will be posted on the website.

11.  Successful candidates will be required to submit attested copies of a character certificate from the Head of the Institution last attended, a certificate of their date of birth, degree or provisional certificate of the last examination passed, and the statement of marks, as also certificates of belonging to a reserved category, where applicable. They will also have to submit affidavits, both personal and from their parent/guardian, in the format given in Annexure I and II of the anti-ragging regulations. They will be required to bring their original certificates for verification at the time of admission.

12.  Admissions will be made in accordance with the reservation policies of the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi in respect of various social groups and other categories as applicable to institutions of higher education. Applicants claiming the benefit of reservations will have to produce the requisite certificates from the competent authorities.

13.  A large number of Fee Waivers (Full as well as Partial) and Scholarships are available. The application form for these will be posted on the website for downloading. A candidate who wants to apply for Fee Waivers should fill in such a form and submit it at the time of interview.

14.  The decision of the Admission Committee in all matters of admissions will be final.

15.  The jurisdiction of any dispute will be limited to the National Capital Territory of Delhi.

Candidates who have a Masters’ degree with at least 55% in aggregate along with at least two years of work experience or publications in a related field

Candidates holding the M.Phil degree in an area, discipline unrelated to Women's and Gender Studies could be required to complete courses prescribed for M.Phil students of up to 18 credits, as determined by the Research Studies Committee (RSC)

Even those PhD candidates, who already hold an M.Phil degree in areas pertaining to Women’s and Gender Studies, may be asked to undertake some M.Phil courses. The RSC could decide that research on the proposed topic requires a particular kind of preparation that the scholar has not yet obtained in her, his education and training

Fellowships and Stipend

Successful PhD candidates will be eligible to apply for ICSSR Doctoral Fellowships through the CWDS, for which there is a separate application process including interview which will be undertaken after formal registration in the PhD program

AUD will give stipend to PhD scholars who are not availing any fellowship, grant

Candidates should apply by registering on-line by visiting our website www.aud.ac.in and making payment of Rs. 1000/- (Rs. 500/- for SC/ST/PD). Payment can be made either on-line or through Demand Draft made in favour of `Registrar, Ambedkar University, Delhi. Eligible applicants will be invited to take an online Admission Test. Candidates short listed on the basis of scores obtained in the Admission Test, will be invited for Group Discussion and Personal Interview.
