DEFENCE UNIVERSITY GURGAON, HARYANA
The country's first defence university — Indian National Defence University (INDU) — will be set up in Gurgaon district. Haryana government has given the nod for acquiring land at the earliest in Binola village along NH 8.
Union Minister of State for Defence Production and the area MP Rao Inderjit Singh said Haryana Chief Secretary had written a letter to the Defence Secretary in this regard.
Taking a clue from the defence universities in the US and China, INDU will be a fully autonomous institution. It will have courses for officers of the armed forces, civil services and para-military forces. The university campus will house some new colleges that will offer postgraduate courses. All the existing national defence colleges will also be affiliated to it, said the minister.
The university, said Singh, will make Gurgaon a hub of academic, strategic and professional expertise. It will also open myriad avenues for employment.
After approval of the Cabinet Committee on Security, the Haryana Government will initiate immediate action to acquire the land.
Earlier, an Empowered Group of Ministers had reviewed defence and security management in the country and recommended such a university.
