The Executive Council of Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) has recommended disaffiliation of Impact College of Engineering and Applied Science and shifting of students from the college to other affiliated colleges.
In a press release, VTU said the reply received to the show cause notice served on the college was not satisfactory and the council decided to recommend disaffiliation.
The following colleges have been served show cause notice for their poor infrastructure: Marata Mandal Engineering College, Bel-gaum; SECAB Institute of Engineering & Technology, Bijapur; Nadigar Institute of Engineering & Technology, SCT Institute of Technology, MS Engineering College and Basava Academy of Engineering (all Bangalore).
In the following City colleges, new courses permitted by AICTE have not been approved by VTU since they have 'deficiencies' as per AICTE and VTU norms: SCT Institute (Aeronautical Engineering and MCA), ACM Engineering College (M Tech - Computer Network, Information Technology, and Software Engineering), Sambram Institute of Technology (MBA), Dayananda Sagar College (MTech -Computer Science & Engineering, and Digital Communication & Network Engineering).
According to VTU Registrar, Prof M S Shivakumar, increase in intake permitted by AICTE has not been approved by VTU in the following institutions (the relevant courses in brackets): Channa Basavesvara Institute of Technology, Gubbi (E&C, CSE and ISE), SCT Institute of Technology (E&C), City Engineering College, (CSE, ISE, E&C and MBA), AMC Engineering College, (MTech - CSE and DEC), Sambram Institute (CSE, ISE, E&C), Revana Siddeshwara Institute of Technology, (E&C, CSE), Dayananda Sagar (CSE, ISE, TE), RNS Institute (CSE) and PES Institute of Technology (Biotechnology), Bangalore. In colleges where the new courses and higher intake are permitted by AICTE but where the same is not approved by VTU, "the deficiencies have been communicated to them and two months time given for fulfilling the AICTE and VTU norms," sources said. Those which fail to satisfy these criteria will have their students (in unapproved courses) 'distributed' to other affiliated colleges.
Meanwhile, the Raja Ra-jeswari College of Engineering, Bangalore, under the Moogambigai Charitable & Educational Trust, has been granted permission to "start the institution during 2006-07".
