    National Chemical Laboratory (CSIR-NCL), Pune, established in 1950, is a constituent laboratory of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). CSIR-NCL is a science and knowledge based research, development and consulting organization. It is internationally known for its excellence in scientific research in chemistry and chemical engineering as well as for its outstanding track record of industrial research involving partnerships with industry from concept to commercialization.

    Eligibility:

    PhD Programme in Science (JRF /SRF):

    (i) Master’s degree in Chemical/ Physical/ Biological and related Sciences/ Technology OR a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/ Technology/ Medicine or B.S of 4 year duration.

    AND

    (ii) A valid research fellowship offer (JRF/SRF) from UGC/ CSIR/ DBT/ ICMR/ BINC/ DST-INSPIRE/ UGC-RGNF/ UGC-MANF or any other equivalent research fellowship tenable at NCL.

    Candidates without any valid research fellowship as mentioned above or those who have qualified only the CSIR/ UGC lectureship (LS) category or GATE or any other national level test without any fellowship are not eligible to apply for the PhD program in Science. Such applications will not be considered.

    PhD Programme in Science (industry Sponsored candidates):

    Personnel from industry holding a M.Sc. (or equivalent) degree in Sciences

    Sponsored candidates who wish to apply for admission to a PhD program (of AcSIR) at CSIR-NCL are requested to get in touch with CSIR-NCL well in advance (preferably before the end of August for the January semester or preferably before the end of March for the August semester) and identify a suitable research advisor depending on the area of research interest of the applicant. The application process will be the same as that for regular candidates. However, sponsored candidates will have to download the filled application form (from AcSIR website) and send the hard copy (by mail or in person) to CSIR-NCL (Student Academic Office, CSIR-National Chemical Laboratory, Pune 411008) along with the company's No Objection Certificate, a letter of willingness from a Group IV scientist in NCL to be the guide, a passport size photograph, degree certificates, grade/ marks sheets, caste certificate and any other relevant documents. The hard copy of the application along with all relevant documents should reach CSIR-NCL before the last date stipulated by AcSIR. The screening and selection procedures will be the same as that for regular candidates. See AcSIR website for more information.

    Selection Procedure:

    Admission is through an initial screening based on minimum eligibility criteria followed by personal interview.

    Candidates applying to the PhD programme who fulfil the minimum eligibility criteria as mentioned on the main page may apply online at the link provided. The list of candidates eligible for appearing for the interviews, after initial screening, will be uploaded on this website. Final list of eligible candidates under different disciplines will be announced after the interviews.  Students may consider staying back in Pune for two to three days more after the interviews, so that in the event of their selection, they may complete the counseling and selection of research guides. Counseling will be held on the next day after the interviews. Details of counseling will be announced at the time of the interviews. No TA/DA will be paid for attending the screening test and/or interview or at the time of joining.

    The number of students to be selected in the areas of Physical, Chemical, Biological, and Engineering sciences will depend on the vacancies that will exist for each of the disciplines.

    Interested candidates who fulfil the eligibility criteria can apply online from at http://acsir.res.in or by clicking the link provided on left side. For more details about application and admission procedures, and to know more about AcSIR, candidates are requested to visit the AcSIR website.

    Names of applicants short listed for the written test and/or interview will be available on website after the last date for filing the application (usually within 2-3 weeks). Interview dates and information for the shortlisted candidates will be announced along with the short list OR after short list of the candidates is displayed. Please check this website and the AcSIR website periodically for updates.

    Eligibility:

    The candidate should have qualified in NET examination held on June, 2006 under CSIR/UGC category or should have valid award letter under the above or DBT/ICMR JRF examination scheme.

     

    Applications are invited from candidates who are holding M.Sc. degree or equivalent in the relevant areas of specialization and have qualified in CSIR-NET under CSIR/UGC fellowship scheme or DBT/ICMR JRF examination scheme for admission to the Ph.D. programme. Selection for admission to the Ph.D. programme will be done on the basis of an interview to he held at NCL in five broad disciplines of Organic Chemistry, Catalysis, Life Sciences, Physical and Materials Chemistry and Polymer Science and Engineering. The number of students to be selected in each of the above disciplines will depend on the vacancies that will exist for each of the disciplines. A candidate may choose to be considered in any three of the above disciplines. The candidate may give his/her choice of disciplines upto a maximum of three in the form. The candidates will be interviewed separately in each of the disciplines of his/her choice. Separate merit list will be prepared in each of the above disciplines.
