The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Pune is a premier institute dedicated to research and teaching in the basic sciences. Established in 2006, the institute falls under the purview of the Ministry of Human Resource Development (vide communication F.No. 22-8/2006-TS.1). As a unique initiative in science education in
IISER Pune has initiated a 5 years Integrated Masters programme and a post-Masters Ph.D. programme in Integrated Sciences in an intellectually vibrant atmosphere of research. Apart from classroom instruction, IISER builds student skills in areas such as scientific inquiry, problem solving, communication skills, computational sciences, electronics and instrumentation and workshop practices. IISER plans to develop advanced teaching and research labs where students will have the opportunity to pursue experiments as well as advanced research under the mentorship of world-class faculty. Candidates who have passed 10+2 or equivalent level exam with science stream in 2020 or 2021 from any board recognized by Council of Boards of School Education in India (COBSE) and have scored within the category-wise cut-off are eligible to apply for admissions to IISER only through the following three channels:
(1) Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) channel
(2) Joint Entrance Examination (JEE-Advanced) of the Indian Institutes of Technology
(3) State and Central Boards Channel (SCB)
These channels will be referred to as KVPY, JEE, and SCB, respectively.
Due to Covid-19, the following amendment to the eligibility criteria for admission to the BS-MS and BS programs of IISERs were relaxed in 2020 and will be continued in 2021:
The cut-off marks in (10+2) as eligibility for admissions is: 60% marks in aggregate or equivalent grade for GEN/OBC and OBC-NCL categories and 55% for SC/ST/PWD in any recognized board.
Indian nationals and students belonging to PIO or OCI category are eligible to apply through any channel provided they satisfy the eligibility criteria described below.
KVPY Channel
Candidates having a valid KVPY fellowship commencing from 2021-22 academic session are eligible to apply for admissions. Additional cut-off criteria for marks obtained in 10+2 board examination is also applicable.
JEE-Advanced Channel
Candidates securing a rank within 15000 in the Common Rank List (CRL) of JEE Advanced 2021 are eligible to apply. For candidates belonging to the reserved category (OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PwD, EWS), their rank should be within 15000. Additional cut-off criteria for marks obtained in 10+2 board examination is also applicable.
SCB Channel
· Students who have passed 10+2 level with science stream in 2020 or 2021, from any board recognized by COBSE, are eligible to apply for admissions and appear for IAT 2021.
· However, they will be considered for admissions to the degree programmes only if they obtain the cut-off marks specified.
· Students applying through SCB channel will have to appear in the IISER Aptitude Test (IAT) which will be conducted at various centres across the country.

• You are encouraged to change your password the first time you log in to the system using the credentials sent to you.

Please note that the application will not be complete unless the application fee is paid online – as the form will direct you to. There is a non-refundable application fee of Rs.2,000/- for candidates applying under General, EWS, and OBC-NCL categories, and Rs.1,000/- for Persons with Disabilities and candidates under SC/ST category. The application fee for foreign nationals is USD 100.

· Passed Master’s degree in Science / Mathematics or a four-year Bachelor’s degree with at least 60% marks (aggregate) are encouraged to apply.

Selection Process
Based on application form and the eligibility criteria, applicants will be shortlisted for an interview. Candidates selected for the interview will receive a separate email to appear for the interview at the IISER Pune campus. Selection will be based on interviews of the short-listed candidates.

· After the application deadline, we will create lists of students who will be invited for online interviews with committees representing the various sub-areas.

International students are recruited via two streams:
1. Direct admission in IISER Pune
2. Through the MHRD-supported 'Study in India' Programme
The next round of Direct Admissions in IISER Pune will be for the session starting in August 2020, and the details for this will be available by April 2020.
Admission criteria are as listed below:
Only nationals of countries other than India can apply. At the time of admission, the applicants for the Ph.D. programme must have completed a 4-year undergraduate degree or a Master’s degree, while applicants for integrated Ph.D. programme must have a 3- or 4-year undergraduate degree.
Selection: Selection will be based on pre-screening, followed by an interview process with multiple rounds. The process will be defined by individual departments and communicated to the applicants in advance. Where possible, interviews will be conducted by video conference.
Application Process: Apply by writing to us at international.phd@acads.iiserpune.ac.in with a cover letter, CV, research statement, scan of information pages of passport, trans and three letters of recommendation. Do indicate your nationality and describe your academic track record in your CV. In your cover letter, indicate the Department (Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Earth & Climate Science, Humanities) of your interest along with names of specific research groups in IISER that are close to your research interest.
Funding: Six International Ph.D. Fellowships, at par with IISER Fellowships, may be available. Tuition fee waiver may be given for meritorious students facing financial hardships.

Based on this application form and the below listed criteria applicants will be shortlisted for an interview. Candidates selected for the interview will receive a separate email to appear for the interview at the IISER Pune campus.
Additional Eligibility Criteria:
1) 60% marks (in aggregate) or equivalent CGPA for General/OBC (55% or equivalent CGPA for SC/ST) in Bachelor's or equivalent degree in any in any one of the following disciplines: Biological Sciences / Biodiversity / Chemistry / Ecology and Environmental Sciences / Mathematics / Physics / Pharmacy / Medical Sciences / Engineering (BE/BTech).

1. Sc. (General / B.Sc. majoring in Chemistry, Physics & Biology) and qualifying additional criteria as given below can apply for Integrated Ph.D. Program in Chemistry starting August 2018.

2. Candidates with rank No. 800 or less in JAM (Chemistry) 2018 can apply for the Integrated Ph. D. program in Chemistry.
Please note:
1. Candidates who are in the final year of qualifying degree, who have appeared/about to appear for the final exams can also apply for Int. PhD program. If selected for admission to the program, the candidate will be given provisional admission subjected to completing the qualifying degree, as per the criteria specified above, before August 1, 2018.
2. Applying to integrated Ph. D. program in Chemistry does not automatically guarantee that a candidate will be shortlisted for the interview. Interview
Final selection to the programme will be based on performance of the shortlisted candidates in a personal interview to be held in IISER Pune in June. If the number of eligible applicants is more than what can be interviewed, additional cut off criteria may be used to shortlist from within the list of eligible applicants.
