The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) was established in 1936 as the Sir Dorabji Tata Graduate School of Social Work. In 1944, it was renamed as the Tata Institute of Social Sciences. The year 1964 was an important landmark in the history of the Institute, when it was declared Deemed to be a University under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act (UGC), 1956.

Age Limit: He/she should have completed the age of 21 years as on June 1, 2021 and should not be more than 45 years as on June 1, 2021, those above the age of 45 years are invited to audit courses of their choice on a nominal payment per course. A maximum of three courses can be audited. An audit certificate will be issued.
Qualifications and Qualifying Examination: Should have a Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) from a recognized University or Institute.

Students should have passed 12th Class or Intermediate in any subject stream from a Recognised Board. Students who have studied International Baccalaureate Diploma and will be completing 12th class with clear results declared by June 2019 are eligible to apply.
Candidates who have appeared for their 12th class or Intermediate final exams and are awaiting results are also eligible to apply. Final pass result should be produced at the time of joining the programme, if selected.
Age Limit: Candidate should be 23 years or less in age at the time of appearing for the Bachelors Admission Test, as on May 10, 2019. Applications from candidates over this age will not be entertained.

Candidates will enter the online application process by giving their authentic email id. To this email with a link to set a password and access the application.
Candidates are expected to use the same email id and password for the entire process till the completion of the admission process.
Candidates will have an option to fill the form and complete the processes entirely at one go or fill partially and save the form for completion before the due date.
Candidates are encouraged to complete the process at the earliest and not delay the process of online submission till the final date.
Candidates are expected to give their preference for one centre only in the online application. This preference cannot be changed through a phone call or email or in person.
Application fees of Rs. 1025 for General and OBC candidates and for eligible candidates (SC/ ST and OBC (NC) family income less than 2.5lakhs and OBC-NC candidates with income less than 1 lakh) the fees would be Rs. 250 + bank charges can be paid online through Credit card/ Debit Card/ Online transaction. Other SC/ST candidates family income more than 2.5 lakes the application fee would be Rs. 500/-
Candidates applying online will be asked to choose between two modes of payment 'Cash' or 'Payment Gateway' in the online application form. If the preferred mode of payment is 'Cash', a payment challan has to be downloaded from the 'Download Challan' tab. Deposit the cash amount mentioned on the challan in any branch of State Bank of India. The bank will return two copies of the challan copy (Student Copy and TISS Copy) with the bank’s seal, signature and journal number on it. Candidates have to then scan the 'TISS Copy' of the challan, login back to the online application system and upload it.

The Institute has the right to not send the OMR-based application to candidates who are not from remote areas place. Please note that the money will not be refunded.
Unemployed Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe candidates, whose parent’s /guardian’s income is less than Rs. 1 lakh (Rupees one lakh only), are exempt from paying the Application Fee. They should apply online through the E-application, and if they are from remote places, they can send a request letter without the payment challan and stamped envelope, but with a request letter, a plain self-addressed envelope and copies of Caste and Income Certificates attested by any School headmaster or a Principal of College or a gazetted officer. Requests received without the above Certificates will be rejected and no communication will be sent in this regard.
