National Entrance Screening Test (NEST) is a compulsory test for students seeking admission to National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), Bhubaneswar and University of Mumbai - Department of Atomic Energy Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences (UM-DAE CEBS), Mumbai. Both NISER and UM-DAE CEBS were set up by Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India in 2007. Their mandate is to train scientific manpower for carrying out cutting edge scientific research and for providing input to scientific programmes of Department of Atomic Energy and other applied science institutions in the country. NEST 2022 will be conducted in around 115 cities [see list] cities across India.
NISER, Bhubaneswar and UM-DAE CEBS, Mumbai are in compliance with the UGC and Govt. of India guidelines on anti-ragging. Ragging in any form is a punishable offense and hence is totally prohibited on these campuses. NISER, established by the Department of Atomic Energy, strives to become a citadel for basic sciences and allied subjects in terms of teaching and research. Its vision includes imparting high-quality science education in a vibrant academic ambience to the bright, motivated students, by a faculty of distinguished scientists and teachers. The curriculum is amply supported by a strong visitor's programme by accomplished scientists from India and abroad.
NISER offers a 5 year integrated M.Sc. programme in Biological, Chemical, Mathematical and Physical sciences. NISER functions from its campus at Jatni. Degrees at NISER will be awarded by the Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI), a deemed-to-be University within the Department of Atomic Energy.
There are a total of 200 seats this year, which include reserved seats for SC/ST/OBC/Divyangjan candidates as per Government norms. 2 supernumerary seats are reserved for eligible candidates from J&K and Ladakh. If offered admission under the OBC-NCL category, the candidate must produce the relevant valid certificate on the date of admission. “NEST 2022 examination will be a Computer-Based Test (CBT/online exam)”
Candidates must qualify all four eligibility criteria listed below:
· Candidates in the Unreserved and OBC categories must have been born on or after August 01, 2002. The age limit is relaxed by 5 years for SC/ ST/ Divyangjan candidates.
· Class XII qualifying examination must have passed in either 2020 or 2021. Candidates appearing in 2022 are also eligible. (Where only Letter Grade is given by the Board, a certificate from the Board specifying equivalent percentage marks will be required. In the absence of such a certificate the decision of the respective Admission Committees will be final.)
· At least 60% marks in aggregate (or equivalent grade) in Class XII examination from any recognized Board in India. For Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) candidates and for Divyangjan candidates, the minimum requirement is 55%.
· Candidate should secure a position in the NEST merit list.
To apply for NEST 2022, candidates must fill–up the online application form through website on or after February 21, 2022. Candidates are strongly advised to read through the detailed online application procedure available on the website (click on ‘How to Apply online’). Online application process closes on May 18, 2022 (Midnight). Application can be submitted only through NEST 2022 website. There is no other mode of application submission. Login credentials for logging into application submission and fee payment portals will be provided upon online registration.
Application Fee: The application fee for the male candidates of General and OBC categories is Rs. 1,200/–. The application fee for candidates in the SC/ST/PwD categories and for all female candidates is Rs. 600/–. Payments can be made using credit card/debit card/net–banking through online payment gateway. Please use Mastercard/Visa/RuPay cards only.
Candidates need not send any document to NEST office in the entire application process.

Admit card: The admit card for NEST 2022 will be available for downloading from June 06, 2022. Admit cards will NOT be dispatched to any applicant. Applicants must download their admit cards from NEST website (after login). The download link will be available only till the day of examination.
